SUMMER OF 67
1967, The Cougars, Benfica, John Colrain and a team Malcolm Brodie has described as ‘the greatest Irish League side he’s ever seen’……….
There are still plenty around the Oval who remember those days;
others can only listen to the stories, imagine what it was like and
dream that one day it could all happen again.
It’s now 40 years on and as part of our club’s 125th anniversary the
‘Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923)’ is holding a very special
event in the Park Avenue Hotel next month to honour that side.
Hosted by UTV sports journalist Neil Brittain the evening will include
“The Summer of 67” – a 35 minute film, produced by Mark Gibson
& Sam Robinson on the ‘Story of the Detroit Cougars’.
Followed by – a 4-course dinner, an evening of 60’s music and your
chance to rub shoulders with the legendary Cougars.
The Cougars will then receive the first gold edition copies of
“the Summer of 67” a limited edition DVD which will be launched on
the night
And – we’ll also have a ‘Summer of 67’ memorabilia display,
a souvenir book (containing previously unpublished images) and a
few other surprises.
Tickets – are priced at £30 and can be obtained from John Moore, Philip Stevenson or Sam Robinson.

So when is it and what’s going to happen?
When - Saturday 9th June in the Park Avenue Hotel
What – we’ll kick off with an introduction of the Cougars. 18 players went to the USA in May 1967; 15 are still with us, some now resident in Canada and Australia others on the mainland. Join us on the night to see how many we can “bring back home”
Although the event is Glentoran focussed, there has already been interest from fans of other Irish League clubs. Everyone will be made very welcome.
This is an unmissable opportunity for Glentoran supporters of every generation to honour a team from the golden age of Glentoran Football club
