County Antrim Shield rnd 1

25th October 05.  Glentoran 4  Bangor 0

Never really in trouble all night despite a couple of long range efforts from Bangor with a very stiff breeze at their backs in the first period. That and a half dozen Glentoran misses helped leave the scoreline 0-0 at the break.

Halliday and Parkhouse up front tonight and it took both a while to get going. First chance of the evening fell to Gavin Melaugh, centre-half fell on his ar$e leaving Gavin one on one with the keeper, but took far too long to make up his mind and goalie Thompson made the save. After that Holmes beat a few defenders to create a chance of his own only to scuff it with his RIGHT foot 10 yards out for another simple save, Parkhouse put Locky in for the ball to get caught up in his feet and he put it wide of goal, and Locky again involved cutting the ball back from the touch line for Halliday to force Thompson into further action. The half ended with big Parky running through all of 4 defenders and letting rip to force yet another save!

Second half and the wind at our backs it was all over in 5 minutes! First a free kick 2 minutes in just outside the corner of the 18 yard box. Shaun Holmes stepped up and curled a screamer into Thompson's top right-hand corner before he even seen it. Three minutes later Holmes again, nodding home at the far post after Sean Ward had done well to get to the bye line and flight across goal. 60 minute mark and 3-nil, Michael Halliday left to run the last 30 yards all alone to calmly pick his spot past the advancing keeper into the far corner.

Morgan and Scotty Young came on for Halliday and err (Melaugh I think)! It was all over for Bangor, for the last half-hour they hardly got a kick. Parkhouse finally netted the 4th about 12 minutes from time, beating the goalie to a high through bouncing ball, heading it goalwards only to see it come back off the crossbar, but alert enough to beat the keeper to the rebound for a tap-in. All so easy in the end, into the last 8.
