31st Mar 03. Elliott's 'Home' game! - You'll get a rare chance to see Elliott Morris turn out for someone else at the Oval tomorrow night! The Glens goalie should be in nets for the Northern Ireland under 21 side against Greece, for their European Championship qualifier - think I'll take a race down for that one myself :-)
League Fixtures? - Everybody's asking, but nobody seems to know when the last 5 games will be sorted! I've heard a lot of rumours, but all I can say is that the IFL are meeting this Friday, presumably it'll be discussed then!
Check your pockets! - The Half n' Half draw v Linfield still hasn't been claimed (winning no. 0903 = £590) Apologies to those who didn't hear the result on the tannoy, there's a problem with the sound system. Remember, the winning number is always posted outside the players entrance and in the upstairs lounge. If this one's not claimed by 7.00pm 5th April (semi-final day) it will be subject to a rollover at our last home game.
AGM - The Glens Annual General Meeting has been called for Thursday 24th April, where amongst other things John Parkinson and Alan Crowe are up for re-election to the Board of Directors. Stafford Reynolds is also running for a position on the Board. One of them is going to be disappointed .............. I think I know who.
30th Mar 03. Glentoran 1 Coleraine 0 ......... & Institute 1 Portadown 0
Did I not say the Insitute/Portadown game would be 'Food for thought':-) While Mark Glendinning (it's like we've signed a new player) was doing the biz at the Oval after 20 minutes, the Hillbillies became the latest victims at sleepy little Drumahoe! One win now, just ONE WIN, secures the Championship!
I thought the Glens looked a bit edgy yesterday, we're so close aren't we. Don't get me wrong, we were good value for the result, but at times I thought we made Coleraine look a better side than they really are, nervy stuff.
Anyway, Tim McCann's corner on about the 20 minute mark was put away by the head of Glendinning, the goal proved decisive as we held out for our, what is it now, 'NINTH' clean sheet on the trot? And I must say, stand-in goalie Neil Armstrong was superb, if this was to be his last game ever for the Glentoran first team he can certainly hold his head high. When news came through at a quarter to five that Portadown had just lost 1-0 at Institute the ribbons were nearly out, at thirteen points clear and with only five games left ............... THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER .... SURELY it is now!
Worth noting - If Glentoran do win this Title AND go on to win the lot, it'll be a tremendous achievement. WHY then is our match report relegated to page FIVE of the 'Ulster', behind the likes of Scotland v Iceland, and Wales v Azerbaijan!! In the Sunday Life it's even worse, you have to leaf back THIRTEEN pages to find our report!! Lets win the friggin lot and bate it up these a.......s!
29th Mar 03. Northern Ireland - kick off in Armenia at 2 o'clock today, the game's 'Live' on BBC2 NI, but I can't find a 'Live' radio link anywhere online for those of you overseas. The 'Live' goal link above is the best I can do I'm afraid :-(
28th Mar 03. Tweet, Tweet - It's my wee birdy again - he say's take a hip flask with you if you're lookin a wee swally at Mourneview Park next weekend, I hear it's gonna be a very dry day for us Glenmen! But then again, wha'da I know ;-)
Elliott Morris - will be going into nets for the National Under 21 side in Armenia at 11am this morning.
Coleraine game - Starting to get interesting isn't it? Third placed Coleraine it is next, the 'form' team in the League at the minute, they've only lost two out of their last five you know - we've lost one from our last twenty three!!
Twice we've played the Bannsiders this season, beating them 2-0 at the Oval and drawing 0-0 up at their place, we could have beaten them that day too, but our old friend John Ferry denied us a blatant penalty right at the death when the 'Doc' got hauled down by Pat McAllister after being put clean through on goal! (Report)
Coleraine have done pretty well since then, but they blew up against the scum at the swamp 3 weeks ago, then last week surrendered 0-1 at home to Omagh Town. At just 9 points behind they'll be looking to catch Portadown in second spot, I reckon they'll have to beat us tomorrow to have any chance of doing that - they can't catch us of course, but they could certainly throw a spanner in the works! The Glens will once again be without Chris Walker and Elliott Morris, Michael O'Neill returns after a one match ban, and Andy Smith will play after the National side.left for Armenia without him ;-)
I suppose at 10 points clear this isn't really a 'must' win game, but what a leap towards that title it would be if we did!
Match betting: Glentoran 8/11, Coleraine 7/2 and a draw 9/4 - You'll be able to get a single bet on next weekends Irish Cup Semi-Final by the way - I'm told to expect the Glens to be around 5/4 - All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
27th Mar 03. Walker setback - Got a wee whimper Big Chris could indeed be in diffs, I hear he has a cracked bone in the ankle. There was some room for optimism earlier this week and it was hoped all may not be as bad as first feared, but now I'm afraid it's back in plaster again for at least another two weeks, then wait and see after that. Not good news at all.
26th Mar 03. IFL backs down - The IFL have done a 'U' turn (big surprise there)!! It seems now a directive has been issued that ALL games must kick-off at 3 o'clock this Saturday - after giving Distillery and the scum permission to kick-off at 4!! Didn't half make that clown Billy McCoubrey look a right prat - The Linfield Chairman was quoted in this mornings News Letter (as IFL Vice-President) saying 'anyone wants to change their kick-off times to 4 o'clock is very welcome to do so if both clubs agree!' Just not your day (month/season) is it Billy :-)
25th Mar 03. Ards 0 Glentoran 2
Sorry for the late report folks - this is the second bloody time I've wrote it, damn programme crashed!!
Anyway - no matter, two-nil it finished and easy in the end, not bad when you've three first teamers missing and another on the bench! So it's just the ten points clear now and 6 games left, Coleraine are next up at the Oval on Saturday for the first of those..............Nine points required from 18. The match report can now be found HERE
BTW ......... Did I mention we just qualified for Europe :-)
Just a thought - One of you sharp-eyed individuals has just drawn my attention to a fixture change today. Lisburn Distillery's home tie with the scum this Saturday has had the kick-off time put back by an hour to avoid clashing with the 'Live' TV coverage of Northern Ireland's clash in Armenia - so what you say! Well the thing is, it's the last game before the split you see, 7th placed Institute are at home to Portadown that day, if they were to win and Distillery get beaten by the scum, then Institute will leapfrog Distillery and qualify for the top six! Surely quite an incentive for Institute to raise their game, and certainly of interest to us given it's Portadown who are involved, a distinctly unfair advantage - BOTH games in my opinion should be kicking off at the same time! Incidentally, here's more food for thought - the Ports only other visit this season to Drumahoe ended in a 3-3 draw, with Arkins nicking two for a point in the last 5 minutes!
Be warned! - Irish Cup semi-final tickets are absolutely flying, they went on sale at 10 o'clock this morning and concession tickets have already sold out! Remember, you can get tickets at the Oval up until 2pm today and then 10am till 2pm Thursday and Friday - don't take a chance and leave it until Saturday.
Stafford replies - Your answers have now come back from Stafford Reynolds.
Ards game - No Chris Walker, no Michael O'Neill after getting sent off on Saturday, and if I'm right no Elliott Morris either if the IFA invoke their 4 day rule before an International - the under 21's play on Friday. When you then hear that the NI squad don't even leave for Armenia till Thursday morning ............. yet another classic from the IFA!
Anyway, Ards season is well and truly over, they cant qualify for a top 6 place, and are virtually certain of avoiding that relegation spot. I'm quite sure they'll not be simply 'going through the motions' tonight though, it's never easy at Taylors Avenue and tonight will be no different. We were here a couple of weeks ago in the Irish Cup quarter-final, and while we should really have had it over by half-time, it eventually took a real cracker out of the blue from Andy Smith to see them off. A win for the Glens opens the gap to 10 points at the top with only 18 left to play for, the sums are easy, three wins then from our last six games and Gibbo's at the Oval. If only it were that simple.
Match betting: Ards 11/2, Glentoran 4/9 and a draw 3/1 - All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
24th Mar 03. Anybody know who won the 'Joker' on Saturday :-)
2,800!! - Yes 2,800, that's how many Glenmen will get into this years Irish Cup Semi-Final!! My advice to all of you is that when the tickets do go on sale either this week or next, you get your finger out fairly sharpish! It's a bloody disgrace, anybody with half an ounce of wit knows this is the biggest game of the season, and now thanks to this joke of an IFA there's gonna be over a thousand Glentoran supporters who wont get in! Where's the Final gonna be - Carrick!
Update - The tickets are out - they can be bought at the Oval this Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10.00am and 2.00pm. If there's any left after that they'll be on sale on Saturday - if I were you I wouldn't wait that long!
23rd Mar 03. Glentoran 0 Linfield 0
No apologies, but I'm not about to waste both your and my time with a match report. Just take my word for it - one of the 'awfullest' games I've seen this season! Absolutely crap! This site will always ring the praises of anyone in a Glentoran shirt - if it's warranted, but yesterday, quite frankly, I thought some of them simply went through the motions, this League is still not over, and until it is I for one won't accept the sort of half-hearted 'we're better than you' attitude I saw from some players yesterday. That's even before I mention the manager's team re-shuffle! SORT IT FRIGGIN OUT!
21st Mar 03. Linfield game - Can't remember for sure, and can't be bothered checking, but this lot have only beaten us once in something like our last 14 meetings haven't they? ........... bit like Ballyclare Comrades really ;-) Anyway (have I mentioned that 26 point gap yet?), Premier League action it is again, our lead over second placed Portadown remains at 9 points going into this one, and that's what we'd like it to be when we come out of it..... at least! The Ports play host to neighbours Glenavon, where everyone will expect them to take all three. Portadown/Glenavon games used to be 'toss of a coin' ties, but over the last few seasons Glenavon's boiler has well and truly burst, this season alone they've conceded 16 goals in 3 Mid-Ulster derbies and scored none! So, looks like we'll just have to win again! This is the first of three games in a week, Ards away on Tuesday, then home to Coleraine next Saturday ....... after which we'll certainly be a lot wiser.
You'll all know by now we're gonna have to do without Big Chris for a while, I'd expect Nevin Riches to come into the side. Nevin's been on the bench quite a few times recently and even played against the scum in the County Antrim Shield semi when Gary Smyth was out injured. Otherwise we're at full strength, even Mark Glendinning's back again!
So come on Glens, for us it's just another game, but it'll be their Cup Final, their season's well and truly over and they'd love nothing more than to be able to say "we beat the team that won the lot in 2003"! We shall see ;-)
Match betting: Glentoran 1/1, Linfield 5/2 and a draw 11/5 - All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
20th Mar 03. More Sympathy for Linfield - from Fear-Us? What do you think! - thank God he's on our side!! HERE
Glens escape again - The latest round of IFA suspensions has just been announced, and the Glens have escaped yet again. This season is the best I can remember for years at the Oval as far as pcking up suspensions are concerned, in fact I think only Darren Armour, Michael O'Neill and Andy Smith have missed a game - a real credit to the sort of football we play. With the IFA Disciplinary Committee now sitting every week at this critical stage of the season, it is vital the side avoid unnecessary bookings - long may it continue.
19th Mar 03. Walker shock! - Chris Walker could be in diffs. The Glens centre-half hobbled away from training last nite after an accidental clash and it looks like he's out of Saturday's tie with the scum. And I hear it could be a lot worse than that - my understanding is that although initially thought to be a break, it turns out he's got ligament damage, worst case scenario ....... Big Chris's season could be over!
Cup Semi at Mourneview! - The Glentoran/Portadown Irish Cup Semi-Final will be on Saturday 5th April at Mourneview Park. Ticket prices are £8 Grandstand and £5 Terrace, the terracing therefore behind the goal 'I ASSUME' will be open for the game to help accomodate what will surely be a massive Glentoran support - it'll have to be with the stand only seating around 1,800 - and Alan Snoddy will be the referee. Should a replay be required it will be played at the same venue the following Wednesday (9th) with a 7.45pm kick-off. Ticket outlets and Concession details will follow.
The second Semi-Final between Omagh Town and Coleraine will now also be played on Saturday 5th April - at Ballymena Showgrounds. Any replay in that game will be on the following Tuesday (8th)
UPDATE - OK, here's the deal. The IFA met last night and opted for Mourneview Park, they decided it was time the Irish Cup Semi's were taken away from Whinger Park and thought Lurgan would provide a better atmosphere - ok so far. Problem is - I'm told the game will now have a reduced gate of just over 5,000!! I pressed David Currie of the IFA on what was likely to be Glentoran's allocation and he 'guessed' at somewhere over 3,000. The terracing behind the goal is, all of a sudden now 'safe' and WILL be used by us, and ticket prices are as I explained above. Concession tickets will be priced £5 a head for Pensioners and children for entry to the Grandstand only, and each club are to get 250 each. There are no details yet from Glentoran as to where and when they can be purchased - soon as I find out you'll read it here.
To sum it up - at a time when they are desperate to get people into Irish League grounds, half of Glentoran's support won't even be able to get a ticket for the biggest game of the season!! Yet another absolute gem from the IFA!
18th Mar 03. Ards game - The new date for the postponed League game with Ards a couple of weeks back has been confirmed and will now definitely be played at Taylors Avenue next Tuesday night.(25th), kick-off 7.30pm.
Update - I've updated the Stafford Reynolds question page - Firstly keep the questions coming, there's been a great response. A lot of your queries though have been very similar, so it's been a case of first in, first on, so if you're not listed please don't take offence. To keep everybody right I've now decided to place the questions on the page as they come in, just to let you know what's already been asked. You'll still have to wait till next week for the answers though :-)
Missing? - Has anyone else realised, that if Andy Smith and Elliott Morris get call-ups for the Northern Ireland games in Armenia in a fortnight, they'll both be missing for the Oval clash with Coleraine!
17th Mar 03. Concerned about 'the Oval' move? - Then ask Stafford Reynolds - As promised last week, Glentoran's Chief Executive is now happy to answer any concerns you may have right here at BalymacGSC.com. Forget all the rumours you've heard - ask the man himself and get the facts! Use the link on the banner above.
16th Mar 03. Back to Black - psssst .... next seasons away kit is going back to black! There'll be red and green piping in the front shoulder area and also down the sleeves ............ it's a big secret though so keep it to yourself ;-)
Omagh Town 0 Glentoran 4
Sorry about the late write-up folks, finished up with the Centre Spot GSC last nite and Sewell got me captured by a loada friggin birds out on a hen nite!! ..... don't tell the missus. Anyway - happy days, tanked Omagh 4-0, gave 'Mac the Mouth' loadsa abuse, and had that sing-song on the bus I'd promised............. we even had to stop at an 'offy' in Omagh on the way home for more beer! The match report has now been moved HERE
Anyway ..... that friggin hen night ................ has anyone seen my boxer shorts!
15th Mar 03. Poor old Linfield .............. Fear-Us style ;-) HERE
14th Mar 03. New front page :-) - New front page folks whadaya think? Still a bit to do so bear with me while I re-direct all the links and stuff and update some of the other pages ............. gonna miss ma two cocks :-)
Omagh Town game - What competiton are we in now? Oh aye - it's the Premier League again ;-) Gotta keep winning, games are running out fast for the rest of them - Portadown will only have seven left after tomorrow. If we can win this one we'll keep that gap of at least 9 points with a game in hand ............. then 4 wins from our last eight will do it :-)
For all the mouthin McCreadie has done this season too his nearly men have yet to take a point of us, he was quoted last week as saying the League no longer holds any importance to his side, so much so that he played his second eleven at Portadown and got tanked 5-1. I wonder will he play his second eleven tomorrow eh? Aye dead on, the hateful git's even forcing us all to stand at one end of their poxy little ground in case we make too much noise!!
Get in there Glens, do the biz, and we'll all have a sing-song on the bus home ... let's give them one for Linfield, ha ha! :-)
Ballymac's bus leaves Wilgar St at 1 o'clock - you can find some other buses heading to the game at the link above.
Match betting: Omagh Town 11/2, Glentoran 4/9, and a draw 14/5 - All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
13th Mar 03. Oval and OUT - Get the hankies out ......it's bye bye to the Oval :-( Out of some 2,800 or so votes taken tonight, only 19 wanted to stay! Consider the ground already sold, an up front payment of some £400,000 is being made to the Glens tonight, and will be used immediately to stave off some of the club's creditors. As for a new Stadium, we're told all sites will be considered in East Belfast, but Laburnam is still the primary target. Grants from the various Sporting bodies are to be pursued with hopefully upwards of 50% of the total costs being met. Meanwhile the Glens have secured a 6 year lease with the Oval's new owners 'Girona Developments Limited', so ensuring somewhere to play while any new stadia is being built. Yes, there was definitely an air of optimism around the Oval tonight ........... :-)
I've had a word with Stafford Reynolds, he's kindly agreed to answer any questions you the supporter may have about the Glens proposed move - right here at BallymacGSC.com. I'll be setting up a facility on the site in the coming few days, whereby you can send in any queries you may have, I'll then give you a week or so to get them in then they'll go off to Stafford, his replies will appear here on the site on a new page. Get your thinking hats on.
10.00pm. Scum's season over! - Omagh Town have just dumped Linfield out of the Irish Cup 1-0 ........... and with it all but ended their season in March!! Get this - Sumo Ferguson even missed a friggin penalty!! Irelands biggest club my arse - end of season dinner this Saturday :-) DJ MUST STAY
EGM - All very quiet ahead of tonight's Extraordinary General Meeting at the Oval. It should prove a pretty interesting evening shouldn't it, we'll find out just how far down the line we really are, and who - if anyone - is prepared to back us in any new venture. I think it's safe to say though the Oval is as good as sold, rumour has it too that a large slice of the purchase price will be up front, used to offset the crippling overdraft and interest payments. How much will be left towards any new Stadium? Where for that matter is it gonna be, given that the 'No Football Here' flyers are already doing the rounds at Laburnam! What safeguards have we if we sell up and a new ground falls through down the road? While I do think more and more of us are coming to realise that sadly our future no longer looks to lie at the Oval, the answers to these and many many more questions will be needed tonight. Time for some serious soul searching.
11th Mar 03, 10.15pm. Ards 0 Glentoran 1 - On we go folks, the clean sweep is still on :-) Portadown we play now in the semi, the exact date I assume still undecided till we get the outcome of the other quarter-final this Thursday night.
No more cup-ties to worry about now till April, it's back to League action now on Saturday with a trip to good old Omagh Town, when we can look forward to giving that gabshite of a manager of theirs another big East Belfast welcome :-)
The Ards match report can now be forun HERE
10th Mar 03. Cup tie - If Taylors Avenue wasn't playable on Saturday, it certainly wouldn't be playable today as it hasn't stopped raining since - fat chance then of it getting the go-ahead for our Irish Cup tie tomorrow!! The forecast for Northern Ireland over the next few days is hail, thunder and gales!! IFA rules say the game must be played within 5 days of being called off, making Thursday the last call - what chance it being switched to the Oval? ............ On the Glens EGM night!!!
9th Mar 03. HAPPY DAYS :- ) WAYHAYYYYY ..... are we lucky or what? Draw's just been made for the Semi's of the Irish Cup. Right, try not to laugh - get this ..... If we're to get past Ards in the quarter's, we get to whop the hillbillies!! in the semi :-) Better still ! - (a long shot I know) But if the dirt were to beat Omagh, and then Coleraine in the other semi
..... WE GET TO WHOP THEIR ASSES TOO IN THE FINAL!! ........ have I died and gone to Heaven or WHAT ;-)
8th Mar 03. GAME OFF - Glens v Ards and Omagh v Linfield have been called OFF due to waterlogged pitches. Our game will now be played on Tuesday night, kick-off 7.45.
7th Mar 03. Latest - sympathetic look at life in the nether regions of South West Belfast just in - Fear-Us ........ HERE
Ards game - Irish Cup day is always special, Irish Cup quarter-final day.............well ! And what a day it would be were we to go all the way to yet another final, with a bit of luck we could be turning up at the swamp as newly crowned League Champions, and looking to stake a place in the history books by winning the lot!! ......... What a day indeed :-)
If only though it were that simple - we must take it one step at a time, if it's to be, it's to be, to throw the chance away now by getting sloppy and complacent would be absolutely unforgivable. I'm sure Ards would like a nice day out in May!!
The signing of our old friend Garry Haylock 6 weeks ago was some indication of how much the Carrick based club want to be involved in days like that, not many clubs would have been so adventurous, but after a double on his debut against Moyola Park, the former Glentoran striker has struggled to find the target. Indeed, Ards in their six games since then have only managed to find the net three times, on a run of one win, one draw and four defeats! How Mr Haylock would love that to change tomorrow! I have no doubt though Ards, like everyone else we play, will raise their game on the day. As always too, half the battle will be coping with the state of the Carrick pitch, what a leveller it could be, when we were last here it was way back on the 29th September and the pitch left a lot to be desired even then!! However, while it's never easy at Taylors Avenue, we've proved it can be done by winning twice down here already this season, a third tomorrow would certainly be very welcome indeed.
Once again I don't think there are any player worries ahead of the match, a few tired legs and one or two bruises maybe, but nobody will want to be left out at this stage of the season, expect the lot to step forward!
Come on the wee Glens, there'll be a helluva lot more than Ards supporters wantin us beat tomorrow ......... a helluva lot!
Match betting: Ards 13/2, Glentoran 2/5 and a draw 3/1
Irish Cup outright: Glentoran 15/8, Portadown 11/4, Coleraine 100/30 and Linfield 9/2 - All odd supplied by TOALS bookmakers
6th Mar 03. Kenny Shiels - isn't resting on his laurels after reaching this season's County Antrim Shield Final - oh no! Mr Happy so badly wants to do well in next season's Premier League he's started all new training methods already HERE
Castlereagh GSC's - quiz has been thrown into disarray somewhat with the re-scheduling of the Ards v Glens tie for March 25th. Alternate arrangements have now been posted HERE
5th Mar 03. Wisla Kraków - are OUT of the UEFA Cup tonight, beaten 2-1 at home by Lazio (5-4 agg). The Poles went ahead in the 4th minute in Kraków, but the Italians equalized before half-time and they couldn't hold on for the draw they needed to go through. A very brave attempt indeed for the no-hopers who entered the competition with us back in August!
Well, well, well ! - It's not often they get many plaudits in here - but I must say I am delighted to hear that the Glentoran Board and Officials - in light of Omagh Town's disgraceful decision to ban Glentoran fans from their stands at the League game on March 15th - have taken the decision to show some solidarity with our supporters and stand behind the 'away' goal with the rest of us. The childish attitute of a deeply embittered McCreadie and his cowardly excuse for a Board of Directors should be highlighted, and treated with the utter contempt it obviously deserves! Well done indeed.
Portadown - will face Omagh Town at home to tonight in a bid to reduce that 12 point gap at the top of the League.
Update: Portadown beat Omagh Town 5-1 tonight in what was an absolute sham - 'Mac the Mouth' fielded only TWO of his first team squad, claiming the coming weekend Irish Cup tie with the scum must be given priority!
Last weeks - postponed Ards v Glens League match has now been re-scheduled for Tuesday 25th March, kick off 7.30.
Just realised - the Glens scored 18 goals in this season's County Antrim Shield .... and conceded NONE!!
BTW - I was gonna place a link to BBC's interview of Kenny Shiels after Tuesday's game .... but it's far too depressing :-(
4th Mar 03, 10.30pm. Glentoran 3 Ballymena Utd 0
Two down - Two to go! Darren Armour, Andy Smith and Scott Young getting the goals tonight as the Glens retained the County Antrim Shield. So the second trophy of the season now sits on the Oval shelves, a win over Ards this weekend really WILL put the 'dream' sweep on the cards. And when you cast your mind back to the Andy Kilmartin thing in October......... Funny old game ;-) Shield Final match report can now be found HERE
Ballymena Utd game - The Glens fifth County Antrim Shield Final in a row this is!
Ballymena United may well be a First division side, but not for much longer, with themselves and Dungannon Swifts even further ahead of the pack in the First than we are in the Premier, we'll be seeing a lot more of both of them come next season. Of course we've already had a taste of the Sky Blues this season haven't we, in the Coca Cola Cup Semi-Final, eight goals we had that night, and thankfully most of them from us :-)
I suppose United will be looking for a bit of revenge tonight, I remember Kenny Shiels gurning after that game (honestly - has anyone ever seen this guy smile!!) he thought his side were hard done by! Well even I thought they gave a pretty good account of themselves Kenny, but the best team on the night won son, make no mistake. We've a few incentives for this one ourselves by the way, we're the holders for a start, then there's the small matter of keeping that 'clean sweep' on the cards (God are the scum crappin themselves over that one or what ;-). It looks like everyone's gonna be reporting fit for the game too, which at this time of the year is a massive bonus. I'm looking forward to it immensely, isn't it fantastic to be involved in big games every week! Let's hope it's as entertaining a show as our last encounter, only not quite so close this time thank you very much ;-)
Match betting: Glentoran 1/3, Ballymena United 15/2 and a draw 100/30 - All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
3rd Mar 03. Shield Final - Kick-off 7.45pm Tuesday, £6 and £5 in, 10 minutes each way extra time, golden goal and penalties to be used if required .... Oh aye, and this year it's against Ballymena United ;-) BTW - Kenny Shiels has been caught cleverly disguised and spying on the Glens at training midweek. Fortunately a quick thinking individual managed to get a photo of him before he could take off down an alley, and has sent it in - keep a sharp eye open if you live in the area. HERE
Wisla Kraków - will now play their outstanding second leg UEFA Cup tie with Lazio this Wednesday (5th). The Poles have covered their frozen pitch with a huge canopy and are pumping hot air under it in a bid to defeat the cold, (maybe they should get Roy McCreadie over!!). After a great 3-3 result in Italy, all they now need from the game is a low scoring draw to see them through to the quarter-finals, and a date with Turkish side Besiktas. Kick-off Wednesday is 5pm UK time, and of course all the goals can be had 'LIVE' at the link above.
2nd Mar 03. SO ......... the press say the Glens have been looking at a new player over the last week or so eh? How do you say 'you read it here first' in Spanish!!!! Let me remind you ...... Feb 23rd - Glentoran? Venezuela? Español? Ring any bells? It's still there, read it for yourself in the 'Older news' section! BallymacGSC.com ........ NO BULL and NO BLUE ;-)
Europe here we come! - The Glens need just ONE more point to be sure of European football next season! It seems we're taking no chances with our massive lead in the Championship and have also applied for a place in the Intertoto Cup! With that privilege going to the highest placed applicant behind the Champions League and UEFA Cup spots, it means the worst we have to do is finish 3rd in the League! With the scum currently occupying 4th place and some 26 points behind us, and an inferior goal difference of about 689, it means a solitary draw from our last nine games takes the wee Cock n' Hens into Europe once again :-) 'HERE WE GO, HERE WE GO, HERE WE GO' :-)
1st Mar 03. 12.30pm. GAME OFF - Bad news folks - the Ards game has just been called OFF ! The pitch is flooded!
Get down to the pub quick before missus hears ;-)
