County Antrim Shield Qtr/Final - Wakehurst, aye I know ... Wake who? Then again that's probably what Larne said in the last round, just before the Second Division side duffed them 2-0 on their own patch! It must be said though, my arse and snipe-shootin spring to mind when it comes to knowledge of tonights opponents. I can tell you they sit 6th in the Second Division table, finished second bottom of their group in the Junior version of the League Cup, and asides dumping Larne out of this competition in the last round, just last week accounted for Drumaness Mills in the 3rd round of the Irish Cup! They do seem to ship an awful lot of goals though, 29 in eleven League and Cup starts alone! Just what sort of team Windy puts out for this one though is anyones guess, but I'm sure he won't wanna go into the weekend Cup Final with egg on his face. I reckon we'll start with most of the usual suspects and hope to rest a few in the second half if as expected we are well in front. Kick off tonight is 7.45, and it's £6 and £4 in. Oh aye, and take a hip flask - the bar's shut.
27th Nov 06. Halfers Draw ... v Coleraine won by Darren Kerr Syndicate, Hillsborough winning no. 4228 = £410
v Glenavon won by Darren Kerr Syndicate, Hillsborough. Winning no. 4466 = £420 - Twice in a row and 3 times this season for the Syndicate, (and before the accusations flow, the organiser does not know the winners personally!!) Tommy McKee

Glenavon game - Just briefly ... anybody thinks this one's a 'gimme' take note - Glenavon have exactly the same stats in the League Table as Coleraine. If you were at the Bannsiders game just 2 weeks ago you'll know exactly what I mean ...

19th Nov 06. Newry City 0 Glentoran 4 - 4-nil at Newry? Well so much for that sweat! a Hamilton hat-trick on 12 minutes then the Doc adding another for good measure! And there was me stuck in thon aul Belfast beer festival ;-)
16th Nov 06. Newry game - A potential banana skin. Sixth placed Newry City provide the opposition on Saturday, on a day when they are the only team in the top 6 to have a home tie. They also happen to be the only team to have beaten the Glens this season from our 16 starts. That defeat came in the CIS Cup group stages of course (2-1 at their place), but I remember saying before that game, that although we'd already beaten Newry 3-0 in the 'home' fixture of the group, I thought even that result was very very fortunate indeed. As it happens Newry went on to qualify for the knock-out stages of the CIS, and got absolutely stuffed (8-0) by the Crues at Seaview!! But it isn't their away form that concerns me - from 7 home starts under Coyler this season Newry City remain unbeaten. Coleraine, Distillery, Loughgall, DC, Limavady, and ourselves have all come away from The Marshes dropping points, so a first reverse of the season is required down there this weekend, and with it a statment of intent to the chasing pack. 22 points from 8 league games is a pretty good return, but remember it's only 2 more than at this stage last season, and we went on to win games 9, 10, and 11 before our boiler finally bust!!! On the plus side at least it gets this one out of the way, an awful bloody place to come to in the middle of winter! We must do it without Locky though, suspended for one game, and although we have young Ryan Berry and Peter McCann to come in, I just worry a wee bit about our lack of bite in midfield. Whatever, an early goal or two would be very much appreciated Glens, I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of screamin through those railings down there with 15 to go! 3 more please :-)
Ballymac bus leaves Wilgar Street at 1.30pm and all visitors are welcome to come along, other buses at the link above.
Match Betting: Newry City 7/2, Glentoran 8/11, and a draw 9/4. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers.
A tenner a head - Admission to the swamp for the CIS League Cup Final will be £10, and £5 concession. Glens fans as you are probably aware will have use of the North Stand, but tickets for the lower deck will only be released on demand. The same applies for Reds fans, Kop Stand tickets will only be issued should all the South Stand allocation be gone. Tickets are available from all our usual outlets as of tomorrow (Friday) morning.

13th Nov 06. Panic over, somebody give Thompson a bell ...
Glentoran 3 Coleraine 2 - Colin Nixon, Michael Halliday, and Jason Hill before Coleraine got their second in the 90th minute to give us all a very nervy end to the day. We never seem to make it easy do we :-(
10th Nov 06. Coleraine betting: Glentoran 2/5, Coleraine 7/1, and a draw 11/4. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
8th Nov 06. It's the Reds - The Glens will face Cliftonville in the Final of this seasons' CIS Cup on Dec 2nd at the swamp. The North Belfast derby at the Oval tonight was decided by a single goal, as the Reds triumphed 1-0 over Crusaders with a 16th minute strike. Cliftonville were last winners of the trophy back in 2003/04 beating Larne on penalties in the Final - the same season incidentally that the Glens (as holders) had beaten the Reds twice in the group stages of the competition, but were expelled before meeting Larne in the semi's due to the infamous Gary Smyth fiasco! Chris Morgan won the trophy back for us the following year by the way - you'll never guess who against ;-) Should be fun :-)
7th Nov 06. Linfield 0 Glentoran 0 (aet) Glentoran won 4-3 on pens - Yez wudn't give thon we cup a polish before yez send it over wud yez ;-) Anybody see where Thompson's penalty landed? Clean sweep, clean sweep ... yuk yuk yuk :-)
CIS Cup Semi-Final - Well here we go again, this very Tuesday night last year we were playing at the same stage of the same competition at the same venue - but against Portadown. It took a SAS goal midway through extra time to seal the Glens 2-1 win and a place in the CIS final. Interesting to note, that win over the Ports put an end to a Glens barren run of 7 games without a win over the opposition! Sound familiar? Leeper and Willo back again tonight, and expect both to start in what's likely to be yet another 'blood and thunder' affair. All eyes will be on this one that's for sure, a barometer perhaps for the season to come? So what's it to be? As you were? ... or the latest barren run brought to an end ;-)
6th Nov 06. Wakehurst in County Antrim Shield Q/F - The Glens have today been drawn against Carnegie Second Division outfit Wakehurst in the Quarter-Finals of the County Antrim Shield. Wakehurst, fresh from a 2-0 win at Premier League side Larne in the last round must now visit the Oval on Tuesday 28th November in their bid to reach the last four.
CIS semi-final betting: Linfield 5/4, Glentoran 15/8, and a draw 11/5. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
5th Nov 06. Loughgall 1 Glentoran 3 ... just in case you hadn't heard ;-) Results and Table pages now updated.
3rd Nov 06. Loughgall game - No Leeper and no Willo for this one through suspension of course, and keep your eye out for a few surprises tomorrow. Whoever plays, God knows we need a good showing in this one after that crap served up last week! As to tomorrows opponents ... Twice we've played Loughgall this season, scoring 6 without reply, although in the 2-0 win at their place they had only half a team out. They're sitting second-bottom of the League at the minute though, not having won a game yet after 6, but worth noting they ARE still unbeaten at home with 3 draws. No matter, nothing less than 3 points is what's required from the Glens, a couple of tricky fixtures elsewhere could see us extend that lead at the top.
Ballymacs bus leaves Wilgar Street at 1.30pm, and as usual all visitors are welcome. Other buses at the link above.
Match Betting: Loughgall 9/2, Glentoran 4/7, and a draw 5/2. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
