Old News - November 2007

30th Nov 07.  Glenavon game -  All roads lead to Lurgan tomorrow folks for game number 10, and a third of the way there already! Glenavon sit mid-table at this stage of the title race, four wins, 5 loses and yet to draw, indeed they only drew 1 of their 6 ties in the CIS too so I reckon you can safely leave them off your pools coupon! League form has been indifferent to say the least, lost at home then won 4 at Dungannon, lost at home then won 4 at Larne, lost at home then won 3 at Institute, finally won a home game 1-0 to Coleraine 3 weeks ago, then lost away to Newry before presenting Limavady Utd with their first win of the season last week! They do score a few goals, but unfortunately for them concede almost as many. As to ourselves, still undefeated in the league, and although Mourneview is never an easy place to visit we really ought to win this one. With Cliftonville having what could be a tricky enough visit to Coleraine, and the great unwashed at Institute, 3 points could keep us just off top of the pile with that game in hand. Glenavon gave us a tricky enough game at the Oval last season, taking a point in a 2-2 draw, but the return fixture saw the Glens romp home 3-0 winners at Mourneview Park. We'll settle for another one of those tomorrow thank you. What a pity Acquah Afriyie had to head home ... :-)  Ballymacs' bus departs Wilgar Street at 1.30pm folks, and all visitors are once again very welcome to travel. Others buses at the link above.
Match Betting: Glenavon 6/1, Glentoran 4/9, and a draw 11/4... All odds supplied by TOALS

26th Nov 07.  Halfers ...  Winner v Newry was Tommy Jackson from Castlereagh GSC and Tommy won £410 when Jamie McGovern drew his ticket no. 8327.   Results and Table pages now updated.

25th Nov 07.  Glentoran 2  Newry City 1 -  Daryl Fordyce and Jason Hill with the goals to keep the Glens top of the table after falling behind just after the hour mark. Sorry for the lack of updates lately folks, been among the missing in recent weeks. Still on Norn Iron duty at the mo but will get the site completely updated and back up to speed in the next few days.

19th Nov 07.  GCT & Glentoran Football Club set up Oval Trial for Ghana Academy Team Captain  ...  HERE

14th Nov 07.  Norn Iron v Denmark -  Saturday's Group 'F' Betting: Norn Iron 5/2, Denmark EVENS, and a draw 11/5. Spain 4/6, Sweden 4/1, and a draw 21/10... All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers

10th Nov 07.  Coleraine 1  Glentoran 4 -  A very important result indeed, especially on a day when all 5 of the top sides in the table won. Took an hour of hard graft to get going though, but once the ever reliable Gary Hamilton had opened the scoring on 62 minutes Coleraine fell apart. Two further goals in the next 6 minutes, Tim McCann and a Nicky penalty put us out of sight, and while Coleraine managed to peg one back Kyle Neill brought the gap back to 3 again right at the death to seal 3 very valuable points indeed. Delighted to be top of the pile going into the 2 week break, then hopefully put a dent in 3rd placed Newry City's early challenge at the Oval on November 24th. Results and Table pages now updated.

9th Nov 07.  Coleraine game -  Big game. The Bannsiders may be lying in 10th place in the table with just 8 points and 6 goals from 7 games, but they'll be well up for this one after seeing the Crues take away our undefeated record on Tuesday night. Coleraine haven't won in their last 4 league outtings, and manager Marty Quinn will see this one as a great opportunity to get his sides season back on track, hoping the Glens still have the jitters after the CIS upset. I reckon this is a bigger game for us though, a win would do wonders to lift confidence again after midweek, and set us up for our next game - a home tie with a resurgent 3rd placed Newry City on the 24th. But a second defeat on the trot ...   well, we won't even go there. I'm confident the lads can bounce back with the win and get our own season back on track. Ballymac's bus departs Wilgar Street tomorrow at 1.00pm, all visitors are once again very welcome to travel - other buses at the link above.
Match Betting: Coleraine 4/1, Glentoran 8/13, and a draw 5/2... All odds supplied by TOALS

7th Nov 07.  Crusaders 1  Glentoran 0 -  Had to happen sometime I suppose, let's just hope it's just a one-off with a helluva big game coming up at an always difficult Coleraine on Saturday. Can't really comment on the performance last night as I wasn't able to make the game, but by all accounts although we had a few chances, a fairly lack-lustre display all round. Still, just one defeat in the first 19 ain't a bad start is it ...    err well actually believe it or not we'd only lost one in our first 25 last season, and it wasn't til wayyyyy up to December 30th before we lost our second and the wheels really stated to come off. Sure those days are a long way behind us ...   aren't they ;-)

5th Nov 07.  CIS Semi-Final -  Crusaders for the second time in a week, the prize this time a possible League Cup Final place for the Glens yet again! This competition has certainly been good to us over the years, current holders of course, and off the top of my head since 1999 I think we've contested no less than 6 of the 8 finals - winning 4 (and don't forget we were also kicked out in the semi's in 03/04). So it's the Crues at the swamp for the second week in a row, a chance for revenge for the 'Hatchetmen', or the Glens into their second final of the season, one trophy in the bag, and top of the League ...    nip yerself!  The Ballymac bus leaves Wilgar Street tomorrow night at 6.45pm, all visitors are once again very welcome to travel.
Match Betting: Crusaders 11/2, Glentoran 4/7, and a draw 9/4...

MISSING LAPTOP -  I'm almost ashamed to report that it appears we have a thief at the Oval. Photographer Russell Pritchard's white Apple Mac laptop went missing from the players tunnel area during half-time at Saturday's Institute match - a laptop used solely for Russell's photographs. I would encourage ANYONE who has any information to please contact either Russell himself, Glentoran Football Club, or the PSNI, I'm assured all information will be treated in the strictest confidence. Alternatively you can go through me here at the Ballymac, and I will pass your information on anonymously if you so wish. Russell has also informed me there could be a reward for information leading to the recovery of the laptop. Keep your ear to the ground folks and do the big man a favour, this is most certainly NOT the sort of thing we want going on at the Oval.

3rd Nov 07.  Glentoran 4  Institute 0 -  Gary Hamilton, Tim McCann, Colin Nixon, and right at the death Chris Morgan enough  to take the Glens back to the top of the Premier League.

2nd Nov 07.  Institute game -  Match Betting: Glentoran 1/4, Institute 9/1, and a draw 4/1... All odds supplied by TOALS
