Old News - September 2006
29th Sept 06. Ballymena Utd game - Believe it or not Ballymena were the first team to beat us in the League last season, and it might also surprise you to learn that it was actually a full 12 games into the campaign! Unfortunately though that 2-1 Oval reverse began a run of 8 League games, of which we were to win just one! Yet another ghost to lay to rest. Take your pick of the starting eleven tomorrow, the manager used all 14 last week and he still had big Smicker, Browne, Feeney and BJ to bring in. Match Betting: Glentoran 1/2, Ballymena 11/2, and a draw 13/5. All odds supplied by TOALS.
26th Sept 06. Brann going to the wire? Just to keep you all up to date with the Norwegian League situation, any of you who travelled to Norway will know how desperate the fans there are to win the title. Well SK Brann lost yet again at the weekend, 3-1at lowly Tromso, and now sit just a solitary point clear of Rosenborg at the top of the table with 5 games to go. Rosenborg however still retain that game in hand, and also visit Bergen three games from the end! Check it out HERE
BTW, 'Results' and 'Table' pages now updated at the links above for the new season ...
25th Sept 06. Armagh City 0 Glentoran 3 ... I know I know, long story. Sure better late than never eh ;-)
22nd Sept 06. New Websites ... have a wee jook at these 2 ...
Armagh City game - Back to the future? Ironic we begin our quest for the Gibson Cup where the final nail of the coffin went in last season - you could do worse than remind the players with the BBC footage of that game Paul ;-) I suppose when you think back there's no better place for us to kick-off our new League campaign, that day at Armagh was the lowest ebb I can recall for the club in recent memory, if this really is a new beginning we surely need to lay this ghost to rest! Gotta say there should be no shortage of confidence though after knocking in 9 for no reply in the last two games, let's just hope that great form continues on the bumpy Armagh pitch. Ballymacs bus leaves Wilgar Street at 1.30pm folks, and once again all visitiors are very welcome to come along. Other buses can be found at the 'Away Bus Info' link above.
Match Betting: Armagh City 9/2, Glentoran 4/7, and a draw 5/2. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers.
21st Sept 06. And now for the serious stuff ... Nearly 3 times your money if you fancy the Glens to lift the Gibbo next April! Irish Premier League Betting: Linfield 1/2, Glentoran 11/4, Portadown 8/1, Dungannon 33/1, Ballymena Utd 80/1, Distillery 80/1, Newry City 100/1, Cliftonville 100/1, Coleraine 150/1, Crusaders 250/1, Glenavon 400/1, Donegal Celtic 500/1, Limavady Utd 500/1, Loughall 750/1, Larne 1,000/1, & Armagh 1,000/1. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers.
18th Sept 06. Glentoran Community Trust Update ... For those of you who missed out on the Glentoran Community Trust 'Flier' update handed out at the Oval at Saturdays' Donegal Celtic game, it has now been made avilable online from the GCT website HERE
17th Sept 06. Glentoran 5 Donegal Celtic 0. Some absolute quality stuff from the Glens yesterday, a joy to watch, and if you do nothing else this Sunday be sure to watch UTV's 'Sport on Sunday' at 6.30 for some of the Glens goals .... Nicky's 30-yarder for one, but more notably Gary Hamilton's stunning effort near the death. Bad news of the day though was the sight of Mark (Sas) Glendinning being stretchered off after coming on as a sub, I haven't heard yet how bad the injury might be but suffice to say the wee man's never been one for rolling around with a sore leg. I hope I'm wrong but I fear the worst.
On another note, here's something that will definitely interest you - read it VERY closely ... HERE
Halfers ... Halfers Prize money of £460 was not claimed at the DC game, - everyone should check their pockets for ticket no. 0827!! If not claimed by the end of the next home game it will be added to a Rollover for a game chosen by the organisers
15th Sept 06. Donegal Celtic game ... Already qualified for the knock-out stage of course, but a point tomorrow at least ensures we'll top the group. As it stands elsewhere all that'll guarantee us is we'll avoid the great unwashed as they've already won their group - the rest of the positions remain undecided til after the final games. Nice to see a Celtic team back at the Oval. Match Betting: Glentoran 1/4, Donegal Celtic 9/1, and a draw 4/1. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers
10th Sept 06. Glentoran 4 Loughgall 0 - To be perfectly frank Loughgall were lucky to get nil in this one, the most one-sided game I've seen in ages, and when Kyle Neil blattered in a 25-yard free kick off the underside of the bar on 20 minutes or so it was as good as over. Michael Halliday doubled the tally just a few minutes later, while McDonnagh and Nicky made it 4 in the second half. A much improved display from that at Newry the other week, although how much of that was down to a very poor Loughgall team I'll leave up to you. So, Glens back to the top of the group once again, both ourselves and Newry qualified for the knock-out stages with a game to spare.
9th Sept 06. Donegal Celtic 1 Newry City 2 - The Glens drop to second in CIS Cup Group A after Newry beat Donegal Celtic last night. Ex Glenman Gavin Melaugh got a late consolation for Celtic after Kevin Keegan got Newry's second!
Newry have one game left to play while the Glens have 2.
8th Sept 06. Loughgall betting: Glentoran 4/11, Loughgall 7/1, and a draw 16/5. All odds supplied by TOALS bookmakers.
6th Sept 06. Norway pics (finally) on line at the 'Photos' link above ... :-)
